Since the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza in 1967, Palestinian journalists have faced enormous obstacles: documenting human rights violations while enduring military restrictions, censorship, and institutional pressure. Numerous local media outlets have been closed or blocked over the years under the guise of security, severely affecting press freedom.

Journalistic practice has become a strategy of collective survival. During the First Intifada, creative methods of clandestine information dissemination emerged, evolving over time into innovative ways to share news and testimonies under strict surveillance.

Repression mechanisms include physical violence against journalists, legal obstacles that hinder the publication of content, and technological restrictions limiting access to networks and communication frequencies during times of conflict.

Despite these challenges, Palestinian networks and organizations have emerged to document human rights violations and war crimes, combining testimonies, records, and geolocation technologies to ensure information reaches the international community.

International organizations such as Reporters Without Borders and UNESCO run training programs in digital security and media production for Palestinian journalists, strengthening their ability to report in conflict contexts and protect their work under extreme risks.

At the same time, digital censorship and platform policies disproportionately affect Arabic content, perpetuating information asymmetry and limiting the visibility of the Palestinian voice online.

In this context, Palestinian journalism remains an act of resistance. The international community has a responsibility to support press freedom, ensure access to information, and recognize that behind every silenced report lie stories and memories that might otherwise disappear.
