On 6 and 7 November 2026, actions will take place across Europe to say NO to dirty hyperscale data centres, under the slogan: Enough of data centres! – Stop Dirty Data Centres!
Hyperscale data centres, designed to power the artificial intelligence of big corporations, are consuming our resources, degrading our territories and making our lives more precarious. They are not neutral infrastructures: they are a business project in the service of private profit that violates rights and the environment.
-
Water is not a coolant. The water that is missing from wells, homes and irrigation systems is channelled towards data centres that devour drinking water to cool servers that generate extreme heat. A 100-megawatt mega-centre can use up to 288,000 litres of water per hour.
-
The landscape and the health of our neighbourhoods. Beyond the visual and physical transformation and the disruption of soil and biodiversity, a data centre brings health problems stemming from the arrival of unbearable noise from generators and cooling systems, air pollution from the gas plants that power them, and the increase in heat islands.
-
The electricity bill and housing. The expansion of data centres is straining the power grid and driving up electricity bills (electricity rises by up to 23%). Moreover, big corporations receive subsidies while citizens pay the tariff. On the other hand, those same funds that build data centres are the ones that buy homes to rent them out at abusive prices.
-
They are not jobs, they are precarity. Data centres receive enormous public subsidies and barely generate significant local employment. Furthermore, the AI services they host are directly linked to the destruction of jobs and to the loss of bargaining power of the working class.
-
The climate crisis admits no more false solutions. AI infrastructure chains us even further to fossil fuels. The International Energy Agency estimates that data centres could account for 3% of global electricity by 2030. The energy invested there is not used to cool homes, electrify public transport or decarbonise industry.
On 6 and 7 November 2026, join the actions called across Europe under the slogan Stop Dirty Data Centres!! We demand an immediate moratorium on large data centres until we democratically decide what AI we want, what it is for and who it benefits. Our land and our lives are not the fuel for a technological race that only benefits a handful of corporations!!
See you in the streets!!
Nobody will do it for us!!
