As we have been saying and no one can ignore, the advance of the far right in Europe has ceased to be an exception and has become the norm reshaping political power on the continent. In Germany, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) leads federal polls with 29%. In the eastern “Länder,” its advantage is overwhelming: Saxony-Anhalt hovers around 42% and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania around 35%. The specter of an ultra-right government in a federal state—something unprecedented since the postwar period—is now a real possibility.

Germany is not an isolated case. In the United Kingdom, Farage’s Reform UK swept the May local elections: 1,369 councilors and 13 councils, while Labour collapsed with 1,277 losses. In France, Le Pen’s RN dominates polls for 2027 with 36%, and in the Spanish State, Vox broke into Andalusia with 15 seats in the May regional elections, and the recent creation of Noviembre Nacional stands out—although residual, it evidences the current political moment. Italy, with Meloni in power since 2022, is the laboratory of a far right that no longer asks for permission but imposes openly fascist policies.

The old “cordon sanitaire” that marginalized these forces has faded. They now play a central role in the European Parliament and the EU Council, and the European Policy Centre confirms their “intact” trend. With recent events on the border of Spain’s autonomous cities, we are witnessing a resurgence of racist rhetoric, and the approval of repatriation centers outside the Community borders—a measure pushed by Italy that shows how ultra-right theses have become official Brussels policy—seems to be proof of this trend.

Meanwhile, the fight continues on the streets. In Erfurt, 31,000 people protested against the AfD; in France, the murder of activist Deranque fueled neo-Nazi marches; and in Milan, Salvini mobilized thousands against immigration. Europe is not experiencing a simple reactionary wave: it faces an institutional and social power grab that demands a response worthy of the challenge.
